Biography

Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan (b. 1984) received his MA in Applied Imagination at the University of the Arts London: Central Saint Martins in 2023 with distinction. He has worked in the Philippines and the United States and collaborated with cultural organizations in Australia, Austria, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia as a cultural producer, facilitator, and observer. 


Pamintuan is interested in LGBTQIA+ artistic expressions and representation in the creative and cultural sectors. His work involves providing a platform for marginalised voices and exploring how creativity plays a role in capacity building and community development. He recently completed a stint at Monocle Radio as a researcher for its three live news programs The Globalist, The Briefing, and The Daily as well as creating feature packages for Monocle on Design. In 2022, he co-wrote his first television series for Amazon Prime entitled Comedy Island.


He was the founder and festival director of The Manila International Fringe Festival or Fringe Manila and managed Pineapple Lab, an artist-run creative hub that features contemporary performances and interdisciplinary arts by emerging creatives (2014 to 2020). During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Pamintuan continued to work in the arts and cultural sector – while taking on a new barista role for a local coffee shop. During this time, he produced and co-presented a digital talk series and podcast called Leave Yourself Outside (LYSO).


Pamintuan was among the first Asian recipients of the Australia Council for the Arts Future Leaders Program. He jumpstarted an Inclusion and Access Plan Toolkit for Melbourne City’s Arts House for artists and audiences with a disability. He was also part of the first contingent of the Japan Foundation Asia Center’s Next Generation Producing Performing Arts Program (2017-2018). He completed a Directing and Producing Program at the New York Foundation for the Arts Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program (NYFA-IAP) in Brooklyn, New York (2015) and represented the Philippines as a delegate to the Salzburg Global Forum for Young Cultural Innovators in Austria in October 2016.  


He has been involved in cultural programmes at The Museum of the Home in London, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, The National Commission for Culture and the Arts Gallery (NCCA Manila), the Ayala Museum, Yuchengco Museum, De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, the Tandang Sora National Shrine Museum for the Quezon City Cultural Arts Council, Museo ng Makati, and the Design Center of the Philippines. 


Previous non-profit theater work includes Company Events Associate at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ (2012-2014), Artistic and Administrative Assistant at ReVision Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ (2012 Summer Season), and Venue Director at the New York International Fringe Festival (2012, 2013). He has also worked in productions at the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF), the United Solo Festival, Kultura Festival, and Summerworks Performance Festival in Toronto, Canada.
